Q. WHEN DID YOU START DRAWING?
I started drawing when I was kid. I still have one of my drawings from the second grade. It's a little bulldog with a snowman. Fairies began to show up in my art around age 14. I also love sculpting dolls, when I can, and making jewelry. If it's creative, it's part of who I am.
Q. WHERE DOES YOUR INSPIRATION COME FROM?
I'm inspired by everything from nature to music. Originally, what always kept me going was my daughter. She still does.
Q. DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE AN ARTIST? OR DID YOU HAVE OTHER IDEAS TO BE SOMETHING ELSE???
I've always wanted to be an artist more than anything else. As I grew up, I wanted to go into forensic art, but I found that it wasn't a high demand job due to computer graphics these days. I started into college to learn computer forensics, but I'm on break until I can get my health together to continue.
Q. HOW MUCH WORK AND TIME GOES INTO DOING A BOOK?
My first book took from November to April for publication. I learned the ropes and all of the programs at that time. The second one came out in July. I am still working on the third, so I would say it takes a long time when you work full-time and have other things to tend to. As for how much work, it's quite a bit. Many of my drawings began as watercolor paintings. I've had to go in and translate the paintings into line art. The new stuff is much faster because I draw straight to an inked image I can scan and clean up.
Q. DO YOU EVER COLOR ANY OF YOUR IMAGES?
Yes, I definitely color my own images. I enjoy coloring the art of others more often because I'm accustomed to my work being either pen & ink or watercolor. Mine usually become an endless stack of WIPs.
Q. ANY PLANS FOR MORE BOOKS IN THE FUTURE???
I definitely plan to keep on drawing. I hand-draw so it takes a long time to get a book completed with 25-32 images. I'm working on Weirdlings & Wildlings book 2 which I hope to have done ASAP. I'm also working on a fairy cat book.
Q. ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD WE HAVEN'T COVERED??? NOTHING IS OFF LIMITS
I do find events to be really fun to do. They aren't always easy, because I do work full-time. I just love the happiness that comes from seeing the smiling faces and warm comments. I love to be tagged in colored images so that I can admire what others create. I'm a new colorist, as a not so secret comment. I started coloring in September 2015. I see so many fine artists among colorists and I hope to acquire the skills they've gained over time.
